On December 15, 1960, Northeast began operating Convair 880s, painted in full NEA livery, between Boston and Miami and between New York and Miami. Because of Howard Hughes’s interest in both TWA and Northeast, he was able to divert part of TWA’s order for Convair 880 jetliners to the smaller carrier.
