FARNBOROUGH — Golden Falcon Aviation, the exclusive aircraft provider of Wataniya Airways, has confirmed an order for 25 A320neo family aircraft.

This order is a conversion from a Memorandum of Understanding to a firm order from last year’s Dubai Air Show.

CEO of Golden Falcon Aviation Rakan Al-Tuwaijri and Airbus CCO Eric Schulz signed the deal today (July 16).

The carrier has expressed interest in serving into Europe with the A320neo from Kuwait.

They have said that Middle-Eastern carriers such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and others have taken away some of their market shares due to their popularity.

The A320neo family aircraft will support the airline’s vision to become the fastest growing and leading airline in the country.

Wataniya currently operates a fleet of four A320 family aircraft serving destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia from its home base in Kuwait.

Deliveries are expected to begin from 2022 respectively. Wataniya has also expressed interest in the Airbus A220, but they have said they are happy with the A320neo family for now and are considering deals with Airbus in the regional market.

Al-Tuwaijri openly said in the Airbus press conference that he is looking at the E190-E2 as an option for the regional market before laughter broke out regarding the tension.

The engine suppliers are currently in negotiation with Wataniya, meaning that it is unclear currently who they are going to go for, whether it will be CFM or Pratt & Whitney.

For now, it is good news for Airbus, especially if they are potentially gaining A220 orders off of Wataniya down the line.
