LONDON — Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW), EADS business unit specialized in aircraft conversions and modifications, and logistics firm DHL Express have announced today the signature of the launch order for the Airbus A330-300 P2F (passenger-to-freighter) conversion program at the 2016 Farnborough Airshow.

Under the contract, EFW will convert four Airbus A330-300 passenger aircraft to a 26-pallet cargo configuration, capable of carrying up to 61 metric tonnes of payload. The first of these aircraft (G-CIOH • MSN 116) will enter into conversion this month, with deliveries to start by the end of 2017.

“We are very glad and proud to have DHL Express as launch customer,” said Dr Andreas Sperl, President and CEO of EFW.  “The A330P2F programme ensures the continuity of high quality freighter aircraft made by EFW in Dresden.”

The A330P2F conversion program was launched in 2012 as a collaboration between Airbus, EFW and ST Aerospace, and includes two variants, just like the passenger versions – the A330-200P2F, suitable for express freight carrier operations, and the larger A330-300P2F, devised for high-density freight and longer range performance characteristics.

In December 2014, EFW secured its first A330P2F order from Egyptair Cargo for the conversion of two A330-200s plus two options. These converted freighters will be delivered in 2018.
