MIAMI— HD Construction and architectural firm HOK have unveiled Tuesday the first renderings of the new Terminal at Salt Lake City International Airport. Construction on the $1.8 billion program began in July 2014 and will continue in phases through 2023. The terminal building will be completed in 2020.
The renderings show what it will be like to tour the three-story terminal and the 4,000-foot linear concourse. The new design features moving walkways, new parking premises and shopping and dining options, doubling the existing space, adding 75 gates and offering separated departing and arrival areas.
The design of the new terminal is intended to meet Salt Lake City’s needs for decades, bearing in mind its adaptability to the constant changes in aviation industry. Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker said they’ll add more security checkpoint stations, as well as a special meet-and-greet area separate from baggage claim. Becker said yesterday that the new airport renderings showcase what this terminal is all about: convenience, sustainability and inspiration.
