LONDON – Nice Côte d’Azur has become the first French airport to introduce detailed terminal maps to Apple Maps.

The new Apple Maps addition will help provide the airports 14 million annual passengers find their way around the airports terminal.

Chairman of the Board of Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur, Dominique Thillaud said: “We are not only proud to be the first airport in France to offer this live, multilingual geolocation solution to our passengers – we are also convinced that it is essential to provide an increasingly seamless and effortless digital experience for connected travellers who want it”

The new system will mean that passengers can time and pre-plan their walk through the Terminal, they will be able to find their gate, get an ETA on walking to time to it, plan where they can eat and where they can shop while on the way.

It is part of Nice Côte d’Azur’s wider plan to provide a “smoother passenger experience.”

The system offers many additional uses with it also allow passengers to make purchases from the shops in the terminals before boring and collecting them on their return to Nice the airport is calling this their “Shop and Collect program”.

This new edition is only available right now to Apple users and works on iPhones or iPads, this is because back in December 2018 the airport helps a consultation which found that 70% of passengers uses an iPhone or iPad while travelling through the airport.

This announcement is good news to travellers who like to plan ahead. The thought of knowing that you can completely pre-plan your 3 hours at the airport prior to your flight before you even arrive, shows just how far technology has come in recent years.
