MIAMI – Wizz Air UK (W9) is marketing its additional 11 routes out of Gatwick Airport (LGW) as it prepares for the summer season. The low-cost airline has already started flying to Athens and will inaugurate service to Malta on May 28. Moreover, the carrier will begin flights to Lanzarote and Malaga in Spain from June 7.
Throughout the summer, the carrier expects to expand the number of international routes from the airport by adding flights to Krakow, Budapest, and the additional Canary Islands destinations. The announcement from W9 happens as many countries around the world have started to lift their international travel restrictions.
Comments from Wizz Air UK
Owain Jones, managing director of Wizz Air UK, said, “We’re excited to be finally welcoming passengers back onboard our brand-new Airbus A321neo aircraft at Gatwick Airport, as they travel on their long-awaited sunshine breaks. “We look forward to gradually restarting more low-fare routes from Gatwick as the summer gets underway.”
The last time we heard from W9, it had flown the first Airbus A321neo family aircraft from London Luton Airport (LTN) to Poznan for the first time in early March. The type is the first A321neo with a Pratt & Whitney GTF engine in the UK.
According to a W9, the A321neo aircraft, which will be based at LTN, has maximum fuel efficiency, with a 20% fuel cost savings and a nearly 50% reduction in noise footprint compared to previous generation aircraft.
