The route, that has a stop in Accra, Ghana (ACC) will be operated three times a week, and QR is employing the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, according to QR’s press release.

Flights operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, departing Doha at 2:30 am and landing in Abidjan at 9:10 am. Services from ABJ depart at 5:20 pm, with arrival in DOH at 6:10 am.

Route is ‘Commitment’ to Africa

For the route, baggage allowances are of 46 Kg (92lbs) on Economy Class and 64 Kg (130lbs) in Business Class, all split into two pieces of luggage. Further, the Dreamliner features 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy Class, along with capacity for up to 15 tonnes of cargo.

The new route reemphasized QR’s presence in Africa, as the airline CEO Akbar Al-Baker told the press in a statement.

“Launching flights to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – our fourth new destination in Africa since the start of the pandemic, after having recently launched Abuja in Nigeria; Accra in Ghana; and Luanda in Angola is a significant step in our African growth. This is testament to our commitment to the African continent where we now operate over 100 weekly flights to 25 destinations in 18 countries via our home and hub, Hamad International Airport,” Al-Baker said.

The new West African routes came up as a result of the increased demand for travel and trade for the African nations, as passengers and cargo are able to connect to some of the airline’s main destinations, such as Paris (CDG) and Beirut (BEY).

Despite the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic created, QR has been growing and adding or resuming routes this year.

In addition to Abidjan and Accra, QR has added five new destinations in the past 12 months. Those routes are San Francisco (SFO), Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), Abuja, Nigeria (ABV), Luanda, Angola (LAD), Cebu, Philippines (CEB), and Brisbane, Australia (BNE).
