MIAMI – With the onset of the Southwest monsoon, an unexpected thunderstorm swept across the Indian city of Ahmedabad, damaging five Indigo (6E) and one GoAir (G8) aircraft.
IndiGo stated, “Ahmedabad airport was hit by an unexpected thunderstorm with extremely high winds on Tuesday evening. This impacted all airlines’ aircraft parked at Ahmedabad airport (AMD).
The airline added that three IndiGo aircraft sustained minor/non-structural damages which will require the replacement of certain parts. The aircraft shall be in operations after necessary repairs.
Three of Indigo’s Airbus A320-271 Neo (VT- IVQ, VT- IVO, VT- ITD) suffered minor damages as the aircraft moved from their parked positions. While GoAir’s VT-WJG AND VT-WGV also, Airbus A320-271 Neos, were causalities too, colliding with ground equipment.
The reported wind speeds were between 25-30kts, but the actual gusts were much higher.
