MIAMI – Emirates Airlines announced today a new “extensive partnership” with the low-cost airline FlyDubai. The agreement is expected to offer a combined network of 216 destinations.

Both carriers said in a statement this morning, the partnership would be rolled out in the last quarter of this year, with an enhanced code-share agreement.

“This partnership isn’t about savings, it’s about extracting commercial value by leveraging the strengths of both companies to accelerate growth,” representatives from the airlines said.

The partnership will include joint network planning, coordinated schedules, and the frequent flyer programs. Emirates’ fleet has 259 wide-body aircraft serving to 157 destinations and FlyDubai’s fleet has 58 Boeing 737s serving to 95 destinations.

Emirates and FlyDubai will align operations at their Dubai’s hub, even though they will continue to serve independently from each other. The commercial relationship is expected to create a combined fleet of 380 jets flying to 240 destinations by 2022.

“Both airlines have grown independently and successfully over the years, and this new partnership will unlock the immense value that the complementary models of both companies can bring to consumers, each airline, and to Dubai,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Chief Executive of Emirates Group and Chairman of FlyDubai
