MIAMI — Delta Air Lines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have announced today the launch of a codeshare agreement with Jet Airways. India’s second biggest airline by market share will now make the Dutch capital Amsterdam as its new hub in Europe, in lieu of Brussels.

Effective from March 27, 2016 prior to government approvals, Delta and KLM passengers will benefit from the connections onto Jet Airways’ daily service to Delhi and Mumbai, with onward destinations to eight destinations in India and five Asian destinations. The codeshare also includes coordinated customer service, single ticket and check-in services and frequent flyer program mile benefits.

“By working with Jet Airways (…), we [Delta] will be able to meet the demand for flights to and from India and beyond” said Nat Pieper, Delta’s Senior Vice President Europe, Middle East and Africa. Pieper also stated that the Atlanta-based carrier has “A track record of building successful partnerships with international carriers that broaden our global network and are delighted to be opening up the Indian subcontinent.”

Additionally, Jet Airways will place its code on Delta and KLM flights. Both carriers offer up to 19 flights a day from Amsterdam to 21 destinations in the United States and Canada. Particularly, these include New York-JFK, Newark, Chicago, Washington D.C., Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Edmonton.

Pieter Elbers, KLM president and CEO, commented “This strategic step will deliver significant benefits to our business and provide KLM customers with exclusive travel opportunities. Plus we will strengthen our presence in the Indian domestic region and their neighborhood.”

Jet Airways will also codeshare on 30 European destinations served by KLM, including Madrid, Zurich and Milan. KLM’s service between Amsterdam and New Delhi will also form part of the agreement.

“With Amsterdam Airport Schiphol as the new European gateway, we will be able to provide our guests with one stop access to a wider array of destinations across Europe and North America together with our partners KLM and Delta” said Cramer Ball, Chief Executive Officer, Jet Airways.

Jet Airways will continue to operate flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Newark and Toronto to Brussels as per current schedule till March 26, 2016.
