MIAMI – Delta announced plans to launch its eighth international destination from Boston-Logan International Airport, starting from next summer.
The new nonstop service to Lisbon (LIS), Portugal, will launch on May 23 next year on a daily basis using its Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
The aircraft offers 20 seats in Delta Premium Select, 29 seats in Delta Comfort+ and 150 seats in Economy.
Commenting on the new route was Roberto Ioriatti, the Vice President of Transatlantic Operations at Delta, who was pleased to add yet another destination from Boston.
“Delta has significantly grown Boston’s direct access to the world in the past five years, including popular tourist destinations like Dublin and now Lisbon, as well as flights to major international hubs offering onward travel to hundreds of more destinations,” he said.
The service will operate on a seasonal basis from May 23 to September 3, according to the Atlanta-based carrier.
The flight will depart Boston at 21:45 and arrive into Lisbon at 09:15 the next day. The return will then depart at 10:45, arriving back into Boston for 13:15.
Therefore, this new route from Boston could be seen as a swap from Atlanta, trying to capture the large Portuguese community that leaves in the New England area.
This new Delta service will enter in direct competition with TAP’s daily service that leaves at 1840, arriving in LIS by 06:05, operated by the airline’s Airbus A330-200.
