Wizz Air Reveals Senior Management Shake-Up

DALLAS – President of Wizz Air Holdings (W6), Robert Carey, has left the budget airline. Carey’s departure was confirmed on Wednesday, July 3, prompting a shake-up of senior management at the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC).

The Hungarian group said Carey had left to pursue other interests. He had served as company president for the last three years.

According to Sharecast, Carey was a former travel, transport, and logistics partner at McKinsey & Co. before joining W6 in 2021. Before that, he was with easyJet (U2), where he served as chief commercial and customer officer.

Internal Promotions at Wizz Air

In response to Carey’s departure, the ULCC has announced three internal promotions. Chief operations officer (COO) Michael Delehant will now become senior chief commercial and operations officer, reporting to Jozsef Varadi, the CEO.

Moreover, Diarmuid O’Conghaile, managing director of Wizz Air Malta (W4), replaces Delehant as COO. Mauro Peneda will replace O’Conghaile as the managing director of W4.

“These promotions underscore Wizz Air’s steadfast commitment to promoting from within, based on performance and merit. Their leadership and contributions will continue to drive our success,” said Varadi.
