WestJet Posts 21% Growth in Winnipeg, Manitoba

DALLAS — The WestJet Group (WS) met with the Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA), which operates and manages Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG), yesterday to provide a progress update on the airline's successful development strategy for Winnipeg.

"The update highlighted an impressive 21% growth for 2024 in the capital of Manitoba. This winter, WS will further expand to serve 22 destinations out of Winnipeg, compared to 18 last winter, increasing our capacity by 35%, marking both record growth for us in the community and our largest capacity boost at any airport in Western Canada this season," said WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech.

Domestic Service Enhancements to Winnipeg

WestJet has expanded its domestic services to Winnipeg, growing by 43% year-over-year. These expansions support business travelers by offering new same-day itineraries and enhancing connections to key Canadian markets.

  • New Route: Winnipeg-Montreal (5x weekly)
  • Significant Increases:
    • Winnipeg-Edmonton (167% increase to 16x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Regina (150% increase to 10x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Vancouver (120% increase to 11x weekly)
  • Other Key Routes:
    • Winnipeg-Calgary (31% increase to 46x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Ottawa (25% increase to 5x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Saskatoon (9% increase to 12x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Toronto (20x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Thunder Bay (7x weekly)

Transborder, Leisure Network Enhancements

WestJet is also boosting Winnipeg’s global connectivity with new routes and increased frequencies to popular U.S. and leisure destinations. These additions will serve over 9,000 travelers during the fall and winter seasons.

    • Winnipeg-San Jose del Cabo (1x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Fort Lauderdale (1x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Atlanta (5x weekly)
  • Notable Frequency Increases:
    • Winnipeg-Cancun (40% increase to 7x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Puerto Vallarta (17% increase to 7x weekly)
    • Winnipeg-Phoenix (33% increase to 4x weekly)
  • Other Destinations:
    • Montego Bay, Huatulco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Orlando, Palm Springs.
