DALLAS — London-Heathrow Airport (LHR)-based Virgin Atlantic (VS) will launch nonstop flights to Riyadh (RUH) and will return to Canada and Ghana after a decade of pause.
Flights to Accra (ACC) will commence in May 2025, while connections to Toronto will begin on March 30, 2025. VS has selected these two cities to resume operations from Heathrow. On the other hand, Riyadh will begin to be served in March, although it is still subject to government and slot approvals.
Juha Jarvinen, Virgin Atlantic's CCO, said, “We see huge opportunities to connect friends, relatives, and businesses with our new services. We are also delighted to build our codeshare with SkyTeam partner Saudia, further strengthening connectivity in the region and beyond and bringing new benefits to our loyal customers.”
For the moment, VS will expand operations to the East, West, and South using A330 and Boeing 787 family jets—image: Airways.
Virgin Atlantic joined the SkyTeam alliance on March 2, 2023. Since then, it has built an enormous list of partnerships and agreements with members such as Korean Air (KE), China Eastern (MU), Kenya Airways (KQ), and now Saudia (SV).
As of today, VS announced that flights to Toronto and Riyadh will be operated by its fleet of Airbus A330 family aircraft, including its newest A330neo. Virgin Atlantic showcased its A330neo at the recent Farnborough Airshow 2024 and ordered seven units of this jet on July 23rd.
