DALLAS – Virgin Atlantic (VS) has ordered seven A330neos aircraft as part of its wider fleet transformation. Following this agreement, VS’ commitment to the A330neo increases to 19 aircraft, highlighting the carrier's focus on improved economics and environmental performance.
Interestingly, this announcement was made at the Farnborough Airshow, onboard VS' newly delivered A330neo, named ‘Ruby Rebel’ and registered as G-VSRB. This aircraft is named in honor of the airline's founder, Sir Richard Branson, and marks the celebration of its 40th anniversary.
In a press conference held on board Ruby Rebel, the company’s CEO, Shai Weiss stated that VS will have a fleet of 12 A350-1000s and 19 A330neos by 2028.
Executive Comments
Shai Weiss, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition, stating, “Today, we complete our multi-billion-dollar fleet transformation, with the purchase of seven additional A330-900s, which we know our customers and our people love to fly."
"Flying the youngest fleet is the most readily available and significant lever towards decarbonizing long-haul aviation and we are proud to already operate one of the youngest and most fuel and carbon-efficient fleets across the Atlantic.”
Weiss also highlighted the enduring partnership between VS and Airbus, noting that it began with the arrival of ‘Lady in Red’ in 1993 and has continued with the latest addition of ‘Ruby Rebel’.
Over the past three decades, VS has operated more than 60 Airbus aircraft, with Airbus playing a pivotal role in the airline's growth and customer satisfaction.
“The A330neo not only delivers unbeatable operational seat mile cost and an exceptional passenger experience, it also greatly enhances Virgin Atlantic’s fleet efficiency and contributes to their sustainability journey. We look forward to continuing this smooth and successful collaboration for many years to come,” said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Executive Officer, Commercial Aircraft.
