Summer 2025: American Airlines Expands in Europe

DALLAS — American Airlines is set to expand its European offerings in the summer of 2025, introducing five new routes.

After a four-year hiatus, the airline will resume nonstop flights to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI), alongside new services to Athens, Greece (ATH); Madrid, Spain (MAD); Milan, Italy (MXP); and Rome, Italy (FCO). These additions mark AA’s growing trans-Atlantic presence, connecting more origin-destination pairs than any other U.S. airline.

Starting in the summer of 2025, AA will operate the following routes:

  • Philadelphia (PHL) to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI): Daily service begins May 23 on a Boeing 787-8.
  • Philadelphia (PHL) to Milan, Italy (MXP): Daily service begins May 23 on a Boeing 787-8.
  • Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT) to Athens, Greece (ATH): Daily service starts June 5 on a Boeing 777-200.
  • Chicago (ORD) to Madrid, Spain (MAD): Daily service starts March 30 on a Boeing 787-8.
  • Miami (MIA) to Rome, Italy (FCO): Daily service starts July 5 on a Boeing 777-200.

These new routes will allow travelers to explore Europe, connecting to 17 trans-Atlantic destinations from Philadelphia alone. AA will also strengthen its presence in Italy, offering the most U.S. flights to Rome from six airports and providing extensive one-stop itineraries nationwide.

Additionally, the airline is extending several seasonal routes to summer service in 2025:

  • Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Barcelona, Spain (BCN): Daily service starts March 30 on a Boeing 777-200.
  • Miami (MIA) to Paris, France (CDG): Extended into the summer, serviced by a Boeing 787-8.
  • Philadelphia (PHL) to Athens, Greece (ATH): Daily service begins March 30 on a Boeing 787-8.
  • Philadelphia (PHL) to Naples, Italy (NAP): Daily service begins May 5 on a Boeing 787-8.
  • For customers looking to travel to Asia, AA will expand its trans-Pacific routes:
  • Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Tokyo Haneda (HND): Daily Boeing 787-9 service.
  • Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Tokyo Narita (NRT): There is a daily service on Boeing 777-200.
  • Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Shanghai (PVG): Daily Boeing 787-9 service.
  • Los Angeles (LAX) to Tokyo Haneda (HND): Twice-daily service on Boeing 787-9.

American Airlines also shared it will begin twice-daily nonstop service from Omaha Airport (OMA) to PHL, starting June 5, 2025. Tickets for these routes will be available via AA’s website and mobile app starting September 9, 2024.
