DALLAS — Taiwanese carrier STARLUX Airlines (JX) will launch flights from Taipei to Ontario, California. Starting June 2, 2025, JX will operate the route four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Flight JX10 will last approximately 12 hours, departing from Taipei-Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) at 8:05 PM and arriving at Ontario International Airport (ONT) at 5:05 PM. Two days later, the return flight, JX9, will take about 14 hours and 5 minutes, departing Ontario at 11:10 PM and arriving at Taipei-Taoyuan at 4:15 AM.
The 6,831-mile (5,936 nautical miles/10,993 km) journey to Ontario will be operated using JX's flagship Airbus A350-900 long-haul aircraft, making it one of the longest for the type.
The Taiwanese full service carrier has eight A350-900s in its fleet, with more on order. Each aircraft is configured with 306 seats across four classes: 4 in first class, 26 in business class, 36 in premium economy, and 240 in economy.
Ontario, California, offers a variety of attractions, a rich history, numerous natural parks, and shopping options. As one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States, Ontario is increasingly popular among travelers.
Additionally, Ontario is home to a significant Taiwanese community, likely contributing to JX's decision to launch flights there. This will mark JX's fourth U.S. destination after Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, all serviced by their flagship Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
U.S. carriers predominantly serve ONT on domestic routes. Its only international route is China Airlines (CI) to Taipei, launched in 2018 and is currently flown daily by a Boeing 777-300ER or Airbus A350-900.
With this new route, JX will become Ontario’s second long-haul carrier, joining its Taiwanese counterpart in providing an additional travel option to Taipei.
As noted by Ben Schlappig from onemileatatime.com, what distinguishes these two carriers is that JX features a first-class cabin. While it is not a separate cabin and consists of the first row of business class seats, it offers a broader configuration.
It is enclosed by high walls, providing more privacy than standard business-class seats. With JX expanding its services to Ontario, travelers can earn and redeem Alaska Airlines (AS) miles and connect to and utilize JX's extensive Asian network from its Taipei-Taoyuan hub.

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.
Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
