Star Alliance Opens First Asian Lounge in Guangzhou

DALLAS — Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance, has just inaugurated its first Asian lounge at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN). Located in Terminal 1's international area, the 750-square-meter facility can accommodate up to 100 guests.

The Star Alliance Lounge welcomes First and Business class passengers and Star Alliance Gold members traveling on member airlines. Operating 24/7, it features workstations, comfortable seating areas, shower suites, and a VIP room for private meetings. A glass facade canopying overhead provides natural light and tarmac views.

"Lounges are a critical component for the effortless travel experience we aim to provide to our member airline passengers," said Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias.

The CEO adds, "As a key strategic hub in Asia, Guangzhou serves as an important gateway for our guests. We are excited to inaugurate our first lounge in Asia, given the significance of the continent to aviation growth today and in the years to come."

Highlighting local culture, the lounge includes a special Tea Appreciation Corner, artwork by regional artists, and a menu featuring Guangzhou cuisine. A dedicated bar offers curated beverages to complement the local vibe.

Star Alliance in Asia

Currently, 10 Star Alliance members operate from Guangzhou, including Air China (CA), ANA All Nippon Airways (NH), Asiana Airlines (OZ), Egyptair (MS), Ethiopian Airlines (ET), EVA Air (BR), Shenzhen Airlines (ZH), Singapore Airlines (SQ), Thai Airways International (TG), and Turkish Airlines (TK), providing 774 weekly flights to 50 destinations across ten countries.

The Star Alliance Lounge was developed in partnership with CAN, reflecting the airport's growing status as a major Asian aviation hub. The facility marks a strategic expansion for Star Alliance in Asia, with Panagiotoulias noting Guangzhou's importance as a key gateway.

The airline alliance plans to open another lounge in the airport's upcoming Terminal 3.

Qi Yaoming, Deputy General Manager of the airport, said, "The fact that Star Alliance has chosen to open its first branded lounge in Asia at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is not only a sign of trust and support for us, but also an acknowledgment of the status of Baiyun Airport as an important aviation hub in Asia."
