DALLAS - Spirit Airlines (NK) will raise awareness for breast cancer this month by debuting its special-edition uniform collection.
Spirit’s team members will wear the new PiNK Collection, with a capital NK, honoring its IATA designator code. The initiative will be introduced throughout October as part of the airline’s commitment to supporting breast cancer awareness and raising funds for research. It is the first time the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) has attempted such an initiative.
Dana Shapir Alviene, SVP of Inflight and Airport Experience at Spirit, said: "The launch of Spirit's first-ever PiNK Collection is a significant milestone in our commitment to serving the communities where we live and work and advancing meaningful causes like breast cancer awareness and research.”
The PiNK Collection features pink tones on dresses, cardigans, and long and short-sleeved shirts. Accessories such as scarves, ties, socks, belts, and pins are also designed for this purpose. The announcement of this new initiative was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from NK’s team members, leading to the special-edition uniforms selling out in under 24 hours.
Supporting Charitable Organizations
The ULCC’s commitment to breast cancer awareness extends beyond the new uniform collection to the communities it serves. Spirit is a proud sponsor of the 2024 Miami International Airport (MIA) Runway 5K, which benefits the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.
"Every opportunity to raise awareness makes a difference in the lives of many of our Guests, Spirit Family Members, and communities. With the debut of our PiNK Collection this year, we're taking our support to the next level", Alviene said.
With every purchase of the PiNK Collection's pin, polo, and cardigan, the Spirit Charitable Foundation will donate to BRCAStrong. This South Florida non-profit organization supports the fight against breast cancer.
Additionally, the airline continues its long-standing support for health organizations such as the Royal Dames of Cancer Research, Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute for Cancer Research, Ronald McDonald House, Susan G. Komen, SknVue, and Personal Ink.
The Dania Beach-based airline operates scheduled flights throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America. As of 2023, NK was the seventh-largest passenger carrier in North America and the largest ultra-low-cost carrier.
In addition to Spirit, other airlines such as Condor (DE) also presented their own initiatives supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
