DALLAS — SmartLynx Airlines (6Y), a global provider of ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, Insurance) cargo and charter services, will restructure its fleet and transition to single-type operations.
The Riga, Latvia-headquartered airline will make the transition by mid-2025 and move to operate a unified fleet exclusively of Airbus A320 and A321 jets while also scaling down its A321F freighter operations.
Edvinas Demenius, CEO of SmartLynx Airlines, said, “Over the past five years, SmartLynx has grown rapidly, expanding from 12 to nearly 70 aircraft to meet the rising demand for additional capacity. By embracing the agility that defines ACMI, we successfully navigated the challenges of the pandemic and the disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine. To sustain our growth and align with our group’s strategic goals, we believe now is the right time to make decisions that will further strengthen the company in the long term.”
SmartLynx ended 2024 with 68 aircraft in its fleet and a record 68,000 operated flights, all while carrying 10 million passengers for the first time.
“The industry we operate in makes us directly reliant on market demand. Our operations are shaped by industry needs, requiring continuous adaptation to stay aligned with market dynamics,” explains Demenius, “Our business model and more than 30 years of experience allow us to be flexible and adaptable enough to rescale to grow sustainably.”
