DALLAS — Today, SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK) has announced signing an agreement with the SkyTeam alliance. The airline, a founding member of Star Alliance, will join SkyTeam on September 1.
SAS customers will benefit from the alliance network. Entering the SkyTeam alliance is a natural consequence of the partial ownership of the Scandinavian airline from the Air France-KLM group. The news comes after several announcements and rumors awaiting the officiality.
With United Airlines (UA), Air Canada (AC), Lufthansa (LH) and Thai Airways (TG), SK is a founding member of Star Alliance. The airline founded the first-ever global alliance in 1997 and Star Alliance currently counts a cumulative fleet size of over 5,000 aircraft, serving almost 1,300 airports worldwide. The alliance is based in Frankfurt (FRA) and counts 26 members, including SK.
