Royal Jordanian Airlines to Launch New U.S. Route

DALLAS – Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) will commence scheduled flights to Washington D.C. in the United States.

Jordan’s national carrier will begin direct services to Washington’s Dulles International Airport (IAD) next March. This will indeed be RJ’s fourth direct U.S. service. It offers flights from the capital, Amman (AMM), to New York (JFK), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), and Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). The new IAD service is significant since it connects the capital cities in both countries.

“Our upcoming first flight between the two capitals, Washington, D.C., and Amman, marks a significant milestone in RJ’s global expansion strategy, making this the fourth U.S. city we fly directly to,” Royal Jordanian CEO  Samer Majali said in a press release.

The airline will commence flights to IAD on March 23, 2025. The route will be offered twice a week. Flights are scheduled to operate on Tuesdays and Sundays, and the aircraft will be a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The aircraft features 24 business class seats and 246 economy class seats.

Sole Direct Service

Royal Jordanian will be the only carrier providing direct services between the two cities. United Airlines (UA) served this route until August this year, when it decided to suspend flights due to tensions in the Middle East.

With the launch of this route, RJ hopes to boost trade and tourism between Jordan and the U.S. The new IAD service will improve air connectivity between the two capitals. Furthermore, the direct service is hoped to facilitate investment opportunities.

“By linking these two dynamic markets, we aim to stimulate tourism, trade and investment opportunities. This crucial connection provides seamless connectivity to the Gulf, Levant and North Africa, reinforcing our commitment to providing exceptional service and connecting people across the globe, aligning with RJ’s five-year expansion strategy.” Majali said.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
