FIA2024: Qatar Airways Orders 20 More Boeing 777-9

DALLAS — Qatar Airways (QR) has placed an order for 20 more Boeing 777-9 jets, the second one for the American manufacturer on Day 2 of the Farnborough Airshow.

The Qatari flag carrier, which launched the 777X program, has 34 of the next generation cargo jets on order. Today's order expands QR's 777X order book to nearly 100 airplanes, with 60 777-9 passenger airplanes on order, according to Boeing.

Qatar Airways is the first customer of the 777-8F. Additionally, the carrier has 12 787 Dreamliners and 25 737 MAX aircraft on order. The manufacturer started certification flight testing for the 777-9 earlier this month.

According to Boeing's 2024 Commercial Market Outlook, within the next 20 years, twin-aisle aircraft, including the 777X and 787 Dreamliner, would account for 44% of the fleet operated by Middle Eastern carriers in the region.
