Qatar Airways Is Back in Damascus, Syria

DALLAS – In a press release dated January 2, 2025, Qatar Airways (QR) announced that, after nearly 13 years, it will operate connections to Damascus again starting January 7, 2025.

As reported in the statement made by QR Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, “We are pleased to resume flights to Damascus, a great historical and cultural destination. This announcement underscores our dedication to fostering connectivity and facilitating travel for our passengers.”

Qatar is ready to resume three weekly flights to respond to travel demand and connect the Syrian capital with Doha. This will give passengers access to QR global network, which has 170 destinations on five continents.

Travelers from Damascus International Airport (DAM) will enjoy the World-Class Airport Experience at Hamad International Airport of Doha (DOH), the main hub of QR and its headquarters.

12 Years After

Qatar is not a new airline flying to Syria; at least 12 years ago, the Qatari airline used to fly to Damascus and Aleppo, the two main Syrian cities. However, since the beginning of the Civil War, the airline has decided to stop all connections between Qatar and Syria.

Flight operations will be handled using all the safety measures stated by QR. The airline is working constantly with local authorities in Damascus to ensure all the safety standards are met to resume the flights.

The announcement comes shortly after the Qatari embassy in Syria reopened following the Turkish embassy's opening on December 8, 2024. Qatar Airways will use the Airbus A330-200 aircraft for its Damascus service resumption.
