DALLAS — Yesterday, January 2, airBaltic (BT) announced the cancellation of 4,670 flights from all bases this summer due to unexpected delays and prolonged engine maintenance by Pratt & Whitney.
The supplier’s inability to meet maintenance deadlines has affected the carrier’s Airbus A220-300 fleet, forcing adjustments to its summer schedule, with the cancellations affecting an estimated 67,160 passengers.
The American aerospace manufacturer informed the Latvian airline that "several of its A220-300 aircraft will remain grounded into 2025 due to an engine shortage." This has resulted in BT cancelling 19 routes and reducing frequencies on 21 others across its bases.
airBaltic says it will "continue operating most of its flights – over 70 destinations across Europe and beyond." It also says it "continues to work closely with Pratt & Whitney to resolve the maintenance delays and find a sustainable solution."
The cancelled routes are as follows:
From Riga:
- Aberdeen
- Belgrade
- Cluj-Napoca
- Yerevan
- Gothenburg
- Mykonos
- Pristina
- Rzeszow
- Skopje
- Stavanger
From Vilnius:
