DALLAS — Lufthansa Cargo (LH) has recently bolstered its fleet by adding its 18th Boeing 777 freighter as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize and increase cargo capacity.
Lufthansa Cargo announced that the new aircraft arrived at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), the airline’s primary hub, on August 17, after being delivered directly from Boeing’s Everett production facility in Washington, USA.
The German airline now operates 12 Boeing 777 freighters on long-haul routes, with an additional six 777Fs managed by AeroLogic, a joint venture between DHL and Lufthansa Cargo.
Rebecca Jeffrey from aircargonews.net recounts how the LH Cargo fleet is further supported by four Airbus A321 freighters for short and medium-haul routes, along with belly cargo capacity from LH and its partner airlines, Discover, Brussels, Austrian Airlines, and SunExpress.
Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, expressed excitement over the fleet expansion, highlighting the increased capacity and flexibility the new freighter brings to their global operations.
Bhat emphasized that the Boeing 777F, known for its efficiency and modern design, is key to enhancing its service offerings, swiftly adapting to market changes, and contributing to more sustainable air cargo operations.
The newest aircraft in the fleet has been named “¡Hola Argentina!” in line with Lufthansa’s global naming convention. This addition comes as Lufthansa Cargo continues to expand its global network, including new routes to Monterrey, Mexico, Shenzhen, and Zhengzhou in China, to meet growing e-commerce demand.
In 2023, Lufthansa Cargo achieved a revenue of €3.0 billion and transported 7.5 billion freight ton kilometers, solidifying its position as one of the world’s leading airfreight companies.
With a global workforce of approximately 4,150 employees, the company specializes in airport-to-airport services. Its extensive route network spans around 300 destinations across more than 100 countries.
