DALLAS – LATAM Airlines (LA) is set to upgrade the cabins of 24 of its Boeing 787 aircraft, with an investment exceeding US$360 million.
This major refurbishment enhances passenger comfort and provides a superior in-flight experience. The project will affect Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 models and is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
According to the airline, the highlight of the renovation is the introduction of Premium Business Suites, making LA the first airline in South America to offer this exclusive feature. The new Recaro R7 Suite seats will enhance privacy, featuring doors that provide a secluded space for passengers.
Economy class will also see improvements, with ergonomically designed seats for increased comfort and an upgraded Economy Plus section that provides more legroom and amenities.
LATAM's redesigned cabins aim to deliver a world-class travel experience. "Our new cabins reflect the essence of the LATAM Group, offering unprecedented comfort and elegance for our passengers," said Paulo Miranda, LA's VP of Customers.
Regarding using sustainable materials, both Premium Business and Economy seats will be upholstered in recycled leather, reducing the environmental impact. The refurbishment will not only improve passenger comfort but also reduce the airline's carbon footprint.
Further, passengers in Economy will benefit from a revamped in-flight entertainment system, which includes Bluetooth connectivity and "the largest content library in the region." Movies, TV shows, and music are available on new high-definition 12-inch screens. Additionally, passengers can enjoy the Panasonic Arc 3D interactive map to explore their destinations in real-time.
The renovation process will take place at maintenance facilities in São Carlos, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile. The first upgraded aircraft is set to enter service by March 2025.
