FIA2024: Korean Air Orders Up to 50 Boeing Widebodies

DALLAS – Korean Air (KE) has announced a firm order for 40 Boeing widebodies, including 20 777-9s and 20 787-10s, with options for an additional 10 Dreamliners. With this order, KE becomes the newest member of the Boeing 777X family. This order aligns with KE’s plans for fleet expansion and modernization.

The new Boeing 777-9s and 787-10s will offer increased size, range, and capacity, allowing KE to reach high-demand markets in Europe and North America, while also strengthening its presence on popular regional routes within Asia.

The South Korean flag carrier has been in continuous talks with Boeing for months after placing a surprise order for 33 Airbus A350s jets in March.

Enhanced Customer Experience, Operational Efficiency

Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air, said the addition of the Boeing 777-9 and 787-10 aircraft marks a significant milestone in their strategic plan to expand and modernize their fleet.

He further emphasized that this investment underscores their commitment to providing a best-in-class flying experience. Cho went on to explain that these new airplanes will not only elevate passenger comfort and enhance operational efficiency but will also significantly reduce carbon emissions, supporting their long-term commitment to sustainable aviation.

"We are honored Korean Air has selected our largest, most efficient widebody airplanes to add capacity to its global network. Boeing airplanes have played an integral role with Korean Air over the past 50 years, and the 777X and 787 Dreamliner will continue to support the airline's long-term goals for sustainability and continued growth,” said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
