Japan Airlines, Indigo Launch Codeshare Agreement

DALLAS — Japan Airlines (JL) and IndiGo (6E) have announced a new codeshare partnership that will take effect on December 16, 2024.

This will offer passengers better connectivity and travel options when booking.

The codeshare partnership will initially allow Japan Airlines to expand its influence in India while later offering 6E’s passengers more travel options on JAL’s domestic and international routes.

Since JAL already flies daily from Tokyo Haneda (HND) to New Delhi (DEL) and operates from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Bengaluru (BLR) five times a week, the airline will begin codesharing domestic IndiGo flights that fly to and from DEL and BLR.

In total, Japan Airlines customers will be able to access 18 Indian destinations, with IndiGo customers being able to fly on the following JAL-operated flights:

  • HND- Bangkok (BKK)
  • NRT- BKK
  • Osaka (KIX)- BKK
  • NRT- Singapore (SIN)
  • HND- SIN

Comments from JAL, IndiGo

Officials from both JAL and 6E expressed optimism about strengthening ties and improving connectivity within Asia. IndiGo’s SVP of Network Planning & Revenue Management, Abhijit Dasgupta, said, “This codeshare agreement will further strengthen business, trade, and tourism-related travel between India and Japan. It will also enable passengers of both airlines to explore some of the most culturally rich destinations in India and Japan.”

He believes that the codeshare will strengthen bilateral ties between India and Japan. This expansion is part of IndiGo’s commitment to delivering on its promise of an affordable, on-time, courteous, and hassle-free travel experience across an unparalleled network.”

Japan Airlines’ SVP for Route Marketing and Managing Executive Officer, Ross Leggett, commented on India’s economic growth in recent years, which he says is leading “to a significant increase in air travel demand between Japan and India.”

He affirmed his IndiGo counterpart’s enthusiasm: "Both carriers are excited to embark on this partnership, aiming to further contribute to the market by providing customers with more convenient and seamless travel options. We believe this collaboration will enhance connectivity between the two countries and foster stronger cultural and economic ties.”
