IndiGo Wet Leases Boeing 787 from Norse Atlantic

DALLAS — India’s largest airline and low-cost carrier (LCC), IndiGo (6E), has confirmed a wet lease agreement for a Boeing 787 from Norse Atlantic Airways (N0). This agreement is part of a letter of intent (LOI) for the wet lease of six aircraft, announced in November 2024 and officially confirmed today.

The aircraft will arrive in India later this month, and operations are planned to begin by March 2025. The agreement's initial term is six months, but it is extendable up to 18 months, subject to regulatory approvals.

Currently, 6E operates two Boeing 777 aircraft wet-leased from Turkish Airlines, flying to Istanbul (IST) from Mumbai (BOM) and New Delhi (DEL). The new agreement reinforces the airline's commitment to further network expansion, including flights to Europe.

“This contract represents an important milestone for Norse as we partner with one of the largest and most reputable airlines in the world. We look forward to support IndiGo’s long haul services, and to deliver an exceptional travel experience to their customers” said Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO and Founder of Norse Atlantic Airways.

IndiGo Fleet

IndiGo is the largest airline in India in terms of passenger carrying and fleet size. The airline currently has a total fleet size of 438 aircraft, including 50 ATR 42/72s, 240 Airbus A320s, 134 Airbus A321s, 12 Boeing 737s, and 2 Boeing 777s.

Although 6E is primarily an Airbus majority airline, the previous year, the airline signed a wet lease agreement with Qatar Airways (QR) for 12 Boeing 737s to address aircraft shortages caused by engine and supply chain issues.

IndiGo also has firm orders for 30 Airbus A350-900s and options for an additional 70 aircraft. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2027.
