DALLAS — FlyEgypt (FT) has suspended all flight operations after a failed attempt to file for bankruptcy due to substantial debt accumulation.
Egypt's Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) denied FT's request to close and liquidate the company, stating that the airline must first resolve all outstanding domestic and international obligations under national and international regulations.
As a result, the ECAA denied the company's request to surrender its operating license and remove its aircraft from the national register, as reported by ch-aviation.
The airline's international debts include contractual obligations with tour operators in countries such as Germany and Italy and outstanding payments to aircraft leasing companies.
On a domestic level, FT is indebted to Egypt's National Air Navigation Services Company, numerous Egyptian airports, and its employees' entitlements.
FlyEgypt operated domestic flights within Egypt and international flights to the Middle East from Cairo International Airport (CAI) until this week. The airline also operated charter flights to many European destinations for tour operators.
Here is a list of airlines that have ceased their operations so far this year, excluding those which did so due to merger proceedings:
- Air Malta
- FlyArna
- Air Vanuatu
- Humo Air
- Lynx Air
- LIAT
- JetAir Caribbean
- Tailwind Air
- Jetlines
- CSA (Czech Republic)
- OTT Airlines
