Emirates to Add Fourth Daily Johannesburg Flight

DALLAS Emirates (EK) will offer four scheduled flights a day between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Johannesburg's O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) next year.

Starting in March 2025, the DXB-based carrier will offer four daily rotations into JNB, South Africa. EK, the world’s largest international airline, is bringing even more choice, connectivity, and premium travel options to the economic hub with this resumed service, which was last offered prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Emirates’ fourth daily flight will begin on March 1, next year. It will be operated with a Boeing 777-300ER, offering three classes.

This follows the recent launch of EK’s second daily A380-operated service between DXB and JNB, which launched on September 1. The move reaffirms South Africa's importance to the airline’s extensive global network.

Expanded South African Schedule

South Africa is a crucial destination for EK. The airline currently offers 42 weekly flights between DXB and Southern Africa. It operates daily scheduled services in the country’s three largest international airports. EK presently provides three daily flights into Johannesburg, two daily services to Cape Town International Airport (CPT), and one daily rotation into Durban’s King Shaka International Airport (DUR).

Emirates Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer Adnan Kazim said, “South Africa has long been a highly popular destination for both leisure and business travelers connecting to and through Dubai, and the fourth daily flight enables us to serve better the growing demand for travel to and from the market. We’d like to thank the South African authorities for their partnership and support in securing this new service, which reinstates the capacity we offered South Africa pre-pandemic, with 49 weekly flights across three gateways. As we reflect on nearly three decades of operations in the market, we remain committed to driving inbound travel to South Africa, supporting the government as they aim to make tourism the leading economic contributor and vehicle for transformation, and encouraging more inwards investment to the country.”

Flight Schedule: Fourth JNB Flight

  • EK767 will depart DXB at 00:10 (local time) and arrive in JNB at 06:20 (local time) the following day.
  • EK768 will depart Johannesburg at 10:15 (local time) and arrive in Dubai at 20:15 (local time) the same day.

The additional JNB flight will expand EK’s Johannesburg schedule, introducing a morning departure from JNB. The airline currently offers departures from JNB at 13:25, 19:10, and 22:20. The extra flight will offer an additional 708 seats into and out of South Africa’s largest and busiest international airport every day, thus increasing options for leisure and business travelers in both directions.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
