DALLAS — Dubai-based Emirates will discontinue its long-running flights between Singapore and Melbourne.
The airline has operated this route since 1996, except for a three-year suspension during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This decision follows the airline's earlier move in 2019 to stop flights between Singapore and Brisbane. EK requested approval to terminate the route from the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) in August 2024.
The final termination date will be determined after CCCS completes its evaluation, which involves releasing EK from its capacity commitments under its alliance with Qantas (QF).
For the time being, EK has 60 scheduled flights between SIN and MEL on its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, according to Cirium Diio.
Despite the change, the Emirati flag carrier will continue to offer four daily flights between Singapore and Dubai and two nonstop A380-800 flights from Melbourne to Dubai with 120 slated for this month.
The airline will also maintain connections between Singapore and Melbourne through QF’s twice-daily codeshare flights.
