Embraer Triples Commercial Deliveries in 2Q24

DALLAS — Ahead of the 2024 edition of the Farnborough Airshow, Embraer has published its 2024 second-quarter results.

The Brazilian manufacturer delivered 87 jets, marking an increase of 88% compared to the previous quarter (QoQ). In Q2 2024, its commercial aviation division saw an increase in deliveries to 19, almost tripling the QoQ results.

The manufacturer delivered seven E195-E2s, four E190-E2s and eight E175. The numbers are in line with its previous five-year average. The company’s backlog reached US$21.1 billion in the second quarter, with commercial aviation accounting for more than half this value and increasing by over US$3.3 billion year-on-year.

Embraer’s Backlog

Embraer’s best-selling E2 jet, the E195-E2, has a backlog of 182 units. Its smaller variant, the E190-E2, can rely on a 21-units backlog, ten of which will join Mexicana de Aviación fleet. Launched in 2018 by the launch customer Widerøe, the E190-E2 has received less interest from airlines in its six years of operations. 

With 44 orders in total, the aircraft did not provide the commercial appeal of its larger variant, the E195-E2. The E2 family has received orders for 326 units, and only 123 were delivered to customers.

While the E2 family has sold well, Embraer still relies on a substantial backlog of E1 jets. At the end of Q2 2024, the manufacturer could count on 179 order backlogs. Without considering the undisclosed orders, 169 of these will enter service in the United States market, where they meet the Scope Clause requirements.

Recent Orders and Deliveries

In March, Embraer’s backlog increased by up to 133 units thanks to a large order for the E175 from American Airlines. In May, LOT Polish Airlines (LO) announced the addition of three E195-E2s to its large Embraer fleet, of which the airline was the launch customer back in 2004.

A few weeks ago, Mexicana de Aviación (XN) placed a firm order for ten E190-E2s and ten 195-E2s, with deliveries starting in 2025. In April, the Singapore-based low-cost carrier Scoot (TR) took delivery of Singapore’s first E-jet, welcoming the first E190-E2 in leasing from Azorra.

Synergy with EVE Air Mobility

Embraer’s Start-Up EVE Air Mobility is also coming strong from a series of announcements. 

Two weeks ago, the company announced a large investment of US$94 million. With a backlog of over 2800 units, EVE Air Mobility has showcased its concept design through three teaser videos released in the past months to document its manufacturing progress.

In just 72 hours, the Farnborough Airshow will officially open its works. EVE Air Mobility will inform the media about its latest developments on Sunday morning, and Embraer has already announced a commercial aviation press conference on Tuesday. Airways plans to report on both manufacturer’s latest developments.
