FARNBOROUGH — On the second day of the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, Embraer organized its already typical one-large media briefing regarding its entire range of aviation products, from military to commercial.
Among other announcements at this conference, the Brazilian manufacturer unveiled the first-ever automatic takeoff system to be implemented on a commercial jet, the “E2TS.” It will be first introduced in the E-195 E2 airframe.
As stated by the Embraer Commercial CEO, Arjan Meijer, the main goal of the E2TS system is to optimize the takeoff performance and reduce consumption during one of the most “costly” phases of the flight in terms of fuel burn.
This will be achieved by letting the system find the sweet spot for an optimal aircraft rotation, reducing the take-off distance (TOD), and increasing the take-off weight (TOW).
Another significant benefit of this technology will be the increase in operational flexibility of the Embraer E2 family in very small airports, which are the common receivers of Embraer planes globally.
Significant Cabin Updates for the E-175
Apart from the launch of the E2TS, Embraer also revealed new significant upgrades for its oldest member in production, the E-175 E-Jet from the first generation.
Starting in 2026, airlines will enjoy more advanced cabin refurbishments, including more space for carry-on bags in the overhead bins. The final goal is to fit one bag per passenger on board the E-175.
The small regional jet will also now feature mood lighting for a more comfortable experience, and space optimization will allow customers to fit more seats in the same fuselage without significantly worsening the overall experience for the passenger.
As of July 23, 2024, the Farnborough Airshow has not seen commercial aircraft orders announced by Embraer. Its last order happened on June 3, when Mexicana de Aviación (XN) confirmed the addition of 20 E-195 E2 units to its fleet by the second half of 2025.
