DALLAS — Budget airline easyJet (U2) has announced its intention to maintain a significant portion of its scheduled flights to and from Portugal during an upcoming cabin crew strike. The industrial action, set to take place from Thursday to Saturday, is expected to impact the carrier's operations less severely than initially feared.
According to a statement released by the low-cost carrier (LCC), it aims to operate two-thirds of its planned initial flights that involve Portuguese airports during the strike period. This figure represents a considerable effort to minimize passenger disruptions and maintain service despite the labor dispute.
The LCC further explained that the 62% operational target refers to flights scheduled before the strike announcement. Specifically, out of 1,138 initially planned flights to and from Portugal between August 15 and 17, the airline expects to operate 906, having canceled 232 due to the strike.
SNPVAC Industrial Action
The industrial action was called by the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Staff (SNPVAC) and affects all easyJet flights operated by cabin crew based in Portugal. The strike notice covers services with reporting hours within Portuguese territory from 00:01 on August 15 to midnight on August 17.
The British multinational LCC has assured that passengers affected by cancellations have been notified and offered the choice of a refund or rebooking on alternative flights. The airline advises all customers traveling to or from Portugal during the strike period to verify their flight status before departing for the airport.
