DALLAS – China Southern Airlines (CZ) is making history by launching the first-ever direct air link between the capitals of Bangladesh and China. CZ will operate regular flights between Beijing (PKX) and Dhaka (DAC) on July 15, 2024.
Initially, CZ will operate twice weekly flights on this route, departing every Monday and Saturday. Eventually, CZ plans to increase the frequency from twice weekly to daily flights shortly, catering to the growing demand for travel between these two nations.
The Chinese carrier will deploy an Airbus A321neo configured with 12 Business Class seats and 187 Economy Class seats on this route.
Strengthening Ties, Boosting the Economy
China Southern announced this new route at a ceremony attended by Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen at a hotel on July 1, 2024.
Minister Khan said the direct flights would significantly strengthen trade and economic ties between the two capitals. He also mentioned the potential for future exploration of a route connecting Cox's Bazar (CXB) in Bangladesh with Kunming (KMG) in China.
"The China Southern Airlines direct flight will strengthen trade and economic ties between Dhaka and Beijing. As China has huge tourists, we think to stair lightweight between Cox's Bazar and Kunming airport in future," said Khan during the ceremony.
Enhanced Connectivity
The minister also emphasized Bangladesh's desire to improve air connectivity with neighboring countries, including China, to bolster the nation's economic growth. The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential for direct flights to foster greater collaboration, people-to-people connections, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Both government officials encouraged citizens of China and Bangladesh to take advantage of this new travel opportunity. The historic ceremony was attended by several dignitaries from both countries.
The announcement of the inaugural direct flight marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Bangladesh and China. China Southern Airlines' commitment to this new route is expected to facilitate trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two nations.
