Cathay Pacific Increases Brisbane, Perth Flights

DALLAS — Cathay Pacific (CX) has announced a significant expansion of its Australian network, marking a major step towards pre-pandemic flight levels. Starting October 28, 2024, CX will significantly boost frequency to Brisbane (BNE) and Perth (PER), offering passengers and cargo businesses more direct connections to Hong Kong (HKG).

Brisbane: Flights will increase from six to ten per week, offering an additional 32,384 seats annually.

Perth: Flights will increase from six to eleven flights per week, offering 140,000 seats annually.

These enhancements align with CX’s broader strategy to restore its passenger network to 100% of pre-pandemic capacity by the first quarter of 2025. Cathay Pacific group, which includes HK Express (UO), has already achieved 80% network restoration and serves over 80 destinations globally.

Benefits for Passengers, Cargo

Frosti Lau, Cathay Pacific's Regional General Manager, Southwest Pacific, expressed his enthusiasm for the expanded service. He also emphasized the benefits for cargo businesses in Brisbane and Perth, with increased capacity for transporting fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, specialty items, and more.

“These new flights will give our Australian customers more choice when travelling to Hong Kong and beyond. This announcement is equally important for our cargo business as we grow our freight capacity,” said Frosti Lau, Regional General Manager, Southwest Pacific.

Australian Airports Welcome the Growth

Both Brisbane Airport (BNE) and Perth Airport (PER) welcomed CX’s decision. BNE highlighted the strategic importance of Hong Kong as a gateway for passengers and cargo, with the additional flights expected to boost tourism and exports in Queensland.

Perth Airport commended CX’s confidence in Perth as a destination, noting the new services will benefit business travelers, students, tourists, and those visiting family. Moreover, both airports acknowledged CX’s long-standing partnership, spanning multiple decades.
