Boeing Employee Survey Reveals Mixed Results

DALLAS — A recent survey of Boeing employees reveals mixed results, with low morale in areas such as pride in the company and trust in senior leadership. However, a majority of employees remain committed to the company and feel that their direct managers are effective. 

The surveys also highlighted concerns about the company's culture, including a perceived lack of accountability and difficulty raising concerns without fear of retaliation. 

Key Findings

  • Low Pride and Recommendation:
    Only 27% of employees would highly recommend Boeing as a place to work, though 67% said they are proud to work at Boeing. 
  • Lack of Confidence in Leadership:
    42% of employees have confidence in their senior leaders' ability to make decisions, communicate direction, and respond to concerns. 
  • Emphasis on Trust and Integrity:
    Employees prioritized trust, transparency, and integrity as crucial values for the company's future. 
  • Concerns about Accountability:
    Many employees expressed concerns that leaders don't adequately hold poor performers accountable. 
  • Importance of Listening:
    The surveys emphasized the need for leaders to listen to their teams and understand their challenges. 
  • Commitment to Turning Around:
    Despite the concerns, over 92% of employees plan to stay for more than a year, indicating a desire to be part of the company's turnaround. 

Boeing's Response

  • Boeing has introduced new company values focused on trust, ownership, innovation, people focus, and safety and quality. 
  • CEO Kelly Ortberg has emphasized the need for a fundamental culture change, including increased interaction between leaders and employees and improved communication. 
  • A group of 40 employees from across the company developed the new values, according to The Seattle Times. 
  • The company is also implementing an action plan to address the concerns raised in the survey.
