DALLAS — Chinese aircraft lessor BOC Aviation placed a firm order for 50 Boeing 737-8 jets on the same day it announced a firm order for an additional 70 Airbus A320neo.
This latest Boeing order brings the total number of unfilled orders to 139, expanding the lessor’s 737 MAX portfolio to 215 Boeing 737-8s and -9s.
Single-aisle jets are estimated to account for 75% of global deliveries over the next 20 years. These orders help BOC Aviation build its order book to support airlines in replacing their less efficient, older jets.
Boeing says lessors have ordered 1,200 737 MAX jets, and it anticipates that these jets will replace up to 300 Next-Generation 737s annually as they are phased out from passenger operations by the end of the decade.
BOC Aviation expressed excitement regarding the order, stating that the lessor now has commitments to purchase over 140 Boeing 737 MAX jets—its largest Boeing order book position in history.
The Boeing 737-8 is among the most versatile single-aisle aircraft, capable of seating between 162 and 210 passengers depending on the configuration, and can fly up to 3,500 nautical miles. With these recent orders, the lessor now holds approximately 820 aircraft in its portfolio.
