American Airlines Expands Caribbean Winter Routes

DALLAS — American Airlines (AA) is significantly increasing its flight offerings to the Caribbean and Latin America for the Winter 2024 season. The airline is adding eight new routes and boosting frequencies on 16 existing routes to provide more nonstop options to warm-weather destinations in the region.

According to the airline's release, this year's "winter schedule will offer 11% more departures and 10% more seats compared to its record-setting winter schedule in 2023." This expanded service allows AA to offer nonstop flights to more destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America than any other U.S. carrier.

Additionally, AA states that "more than 98% of the airline’s peak schedule to the region will operate for the full winter season. American will also grow service on 16 popular routes starting this December." Tickets for all destinations mentioned go on sale at aa.com or American’s mobile app starting May 20.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
