DALLAS — The Alaska Airlines (AS) and Hawaiian Airlines (HA) merger presents a rare chance to combine complementary cargo networks that can boost both companies' domestic and international brands and make even more strategic use of cargo.
Ian Morgan was chosen by the AS board of directors this week to serve as the company's new vice president of cargo. Jason Berry kept his position as President of Horizon Air (QX) and was promoted to Executive Vice President at the parent business of Alaska Air Group, Inc. in parallel.
Leading Alaska Air Cargo's daily cargo operations and staff of about 600 will be Morgan's responsibility. In addition, he will oversee the expansion of Alaska Air Group's cargo division, which is now run by AS and HA.
On his part, Berry will continue in his independent capacity as President of QX, an entirely-owned subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, and will oversee the overall operations of the cargo company.
Both airlines have an understanding of and respect for the cargo requirements of communities that depend on the carriers' services—the new leadership shuffle is part of this understanding.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled about this next chapter for Alaska Air Cargo. With these leaders, we’re well positioned for unlimited future success as we grow and expand our cargo operations to deliver for everyone who depends on us.” - Alaska Air Group President and CEO Ben Minicucci
