Air France to Service 170 Winter Destinations

DALLAS — Air France (AF) will expand its long-haul network, adding eight routes and five new destinations for Winter 2024-2025. After a busy summer flying visitors across France to attend the Olympic and Paralympic Games, AF will continue to expand its global network.

During the 2024-2025 winter season (from November 2024 to March 2025), the Paris-based (PAR) airline will serve 169 destinations in 73 countries, including 85 long-haul and 84 short- and medium-haul destinations this winter.

In addition to more services to Northern Europe operated by AF itself—and through cooperation agreements with SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK)—the French national carrier will also launch its new Premium Economy class cabin, La Première, on various aircraft by the end of the year.

New Long-haul Routes

Air France will operate long-haul flights to 85 cities, including four new destinations. Over the winter, Air France will expand its long-haul network with services to 4 new destinations, including:

Kilimanjaro (JRO), with three flights a week operated by Airbus A350-900 aircraft starting November 18, 2024. However, the route extends AF’s Zanzibar (ZNZ) flight.

Salvador de Bahia (SSA) will operate three flights a week starting October 28, 2024, using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. SSA becomes Air France's fifth destination in Brazil, after Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Sao Paulo (GRU), Fortaleza (FOR), and Belém (BEL). AF will offer up to 32 weekly flights to and from Brazil, with connecting opportunities to 40 domestic destinations, courtesy of a commercial partnership with Brazilian carrier GOL (G3).

Manila (MNL), with three weekly flights starting December 7, 2024, operated by Airbus A350-900 aircraft. KLM (KL) also operates flights to MNL, four flights a week from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) using Boeing 787-9. Coordinating the two airlines' flight schedules will allow the Air France-KLM Group to offer daily service to MNL.

Malé (MLE) in the Maldives, with up to two flights a week during the holiday season, from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Flights will be operated by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Short, Medium-haul Routes

AF will increase services to Northern Europe on medium-haul routes during the winter season. The opening of a new route to Kiruna (KRN) in Sweden marks AF’s fifth destination in Lapland.

In addition to Rovaniemi (RVN) and Kittilä (KTT) in Finland, Tromsø (TOS) and Narvik Lofoten (EVE) in Norway, AF will operate flights to KRN once a week between December 21, 2024 and March 8, 2025, with an Airbus A319 aircraft.

As part of the new commercial cooperation agreement with SK (effective September 1, 2024), AF customers now enjoy access to 33 new destinations in Northern Europe, including Kristiansund (KRS) in Norway, Aarhus (AAR) in Denmark, Turku (TKU) in Finland, and Luleå (LLA) in Sweden via SK hubs in Copenhagen (CPH), Oslo (OSL) and Stockholm (STO).

AF will also offer flights to Tangiers (TNG) in Morocco for the holiday season, previously served only in the summer. Three weekly flights will be offered from December 22, 2024, to January 3, 2025.

To the Americas

The French flag carrier will continue to grow its North American route network. This winter, the airline will operate 235 weekly flights to 23 destinations across the continent.

AF will extend its service to Denver (DEN) and Phoenix (PHX) into the winter season, with three flights a week to each city from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport (CDG). Until now, AF’s DEN service has only been available in summer, while flights to PHX were inaugurated on May 23 this year.

Saint-Martin (SXM) in the Caribbean will also see increased services. From December 20, 2024, AF will operate two daily flights to SXM, using Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Premium Cabins

Air France will continue to roll out new travel cabins as part of its premiumization strategy. Since last July, customers traveling in AF’s Premium Economy class cabin, La Première cabin, have enjoyed an exceptional new experience on the ground and at CDG.

At the end of the year, Air France will unveil a completely redesigned La Première cabin. Featuring five windows, it is intended to be the longest such cabin on the market and will be rolled out on more aircraft than now.

During the winter 2024-2025 season, La Première suites will be available on a selection of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with service to Abidjan (ABJ), Dubai (DXB), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), Washington (IAD), San Francisco (SFO), Sao Paulo (GRU), Singapore (SIN) and Tokyo (HND).

New long-haul cabins are offered on Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Available in Business, Premium, and Economy, these cabins represent the airline's new standard.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
