DALLAS — A new, important step in the long-standing cooperation between Viasat and Aeromexico (AM) has been announced.
The Mexican flag carrier plans to upgrade in-flight connectivity aboard its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The Aeromexico fleet has 17 units of this aircraft model, including eight B787-8s and nine B787-9s.
Viasat has selected its most advanced Wi-Fi technology for in-flight connectivity. It will first be equipped with Boeing 787-8s, followed by the installation of this system on the 787-9 models. The first aircraft featuring the new Viasat system will enter service in 2025.
Since 2018, Aeromexico has offered passengers in-flight connectivity using Viasat technology on some flights. AM management believes upgrading the Dreamliner aircraft's Wi-Fi system with Viasat technology underscores the airline’s commitment to offering an exceptional experience to passengers and crew, including real-time messaging throughout the flight, internet browsing, and video streaming.
Aeromexico continues to use Viasat’s high-capacity Ka-band satellite network for high-speed internet access, further enhancing the flight experience and passenger comfort.
This service is available on routes operated by the Dreamliner fleet, including major European cities such as Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, Rome, and London, as well as key South American capitals like Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile.
Aeromexico also utilizes the Viasat Ads platform to provide passengers with ad-supported, free internet connectivity sessions with speeds capable of supporting streaming.
