Aeromexico to Launch Cartagena Daily Nonstop

DALLAS — Starting February 20, 2025, Aeromexico (AM) will introduce a daily nonstop flight between Mexico City and Cartagena, Colombia, just in time for the Cartagena Carnival.

This new route marks Aeromexico's third destination in Colombia, adding to its existing flights to Bogotá and Medellín. With this expansion, the airline will operate 70 weekly flights between Mexico and Colombia, offering 11,600 seats per week, a 25% increase in capacity.

Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant cultural scene, will now be more accessible to travelers. The route will be serviced by Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, featuring enhanced comfort with larger overhead compartments, in-flight entertainment, and high-speed Wi-Fi. Tickets will be available for purchase pending government approval.

Aeromexico has a notable history of operations in Colombia. The airline first launched its service to Bogotá in July 2010, marking its initial entry into the Colombian market. This was followed by flights to Medellín in 2015.

In February 2019, AM expanded its Colombian network by adding Cali as its third destination. These routes are part of AM's broader strategy to enhance connectivity from its hub in Mexico City to various international destinations, including several in Latin America.

As the Mexican carrier celebrates its 90th anniversary, it continues to expand its network, which now includes over 110 domestic and international routes across three continents.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
