Is Virgin America the USA's Best Airline?

To many experienced travellers outside the USA, the words 'America' and 'excellent airline' are rarely used in the same sentence. So, 'Best airline in America' - an oxymoron like 'giant shrimp' or 'military intelligence' - is likely to evoke the skeptical response, "You mean the best of a bad bunch?" Indeed, US flyers have been 'programmed' to expect little when they buy a ticket nowadays...
